Fong operates a motor sport distribution company in Santa Clara, CA.

We shipped the $300 item to the customer who claimed the box was filled only with rocks. We filed a UPS claim, but the customer refused to give UPS the package to complete the claim. The customer then claimed to have a police report. We requested a copy of it but never received one. We contacted the customer again which at that time they claimed everything was taken care of. Lionel owns a repair shop in Chicago, IL that rebuilds engines.

On 11-19 the customer made a deposit for a job by charge card via phone so we could begin the work. We mailed a receipt that day to the customers home. Final payment was made again by phone with their card. Both transactions were authorized and the job was completed. The job was picked up a week later by an outside party and no physical card was produced. A month later we received a letter notifying us that it was fraud and a month after that the Post Office had returned the receipts we had mailed to the customer. Now it's too late to redeem charges, services, or credit card.

Many businesses operate on good faith and only receive payment once the job is complete. This is a risk that many can't afford to take but are forced to in order to stay a float.

Edward operates a towing and service shop in South Elgin, IL.

A vehicle was brought into our shop to have extensive work done on the engine. After the repairs were complete the customer brought his truck back complaining of a strange noise. It was assessed that the noise was coming from a failed turbocharger. At that point an estimate was given to the customer for the sake of information and in no way forcing the repairs on the customer. We discovered that the noise was coming from an improperly connected turbocharger, an oversight by us when did the original repairs. Reconnecting the turbocharger is a $30 fix much less then replacement of a failed one, which the invoice was for. The customer then took his truck to another shop where they performed work on other areas of his truck including reconnecting the turbocharger properly.

In comes the chargeback letter, the customer was looking for an adjustment for the work the other shop had performed. Work that had nothing to do with what Edward’s shop had done.
